Together we call upon Congress to do the right thing. Ukrainians are fighting for their existence. On territory that Russia occupies, it tortures Ukrainian citizens, kidnaps Ukrainian children and murders Ukrainian leaders. On territory Russia can reach with its weapons, it strikes civilians and rescue workers. Russian missiles, drones and bombs destroy churches and monuments to the Holocaust. Russian occupation threatens Ukraine’s Muslims, the Crimean Tatars. Russian leaders say openly that their goal is the destruction of the Ukrainian state and the elimination of Ukrainians as a people. Russian propagandists threaten genocide almost every day. Right now, Russia is using missiles and glide bombs to destroy the ancient and beautiful city of Kharkiv, once home to 1.5 million people, just as Russia destroyed Mariupol, Aleppo and Grozny.

Ukrainians are also fighting for our safety and for everyone’s freedom. By resisting Russian dictatorship, they show that democracy can defend itself. By defending their borders, they are protecting the international order and holding off chaos. By fighting Russia alone, they protect Europe. By showing how hard offensive operations are, Ukrainians make a Chinese war in the Pacific less likely. By fighting a conventional war against a nuclear power, they are making nuclear proliferation and nuclear war less likely. The Ukrainian armed forces are defending basic American interests. They are doing things that Americans cannot do for themselves. By absorbing the entire Russian attack, they are making other wars in Europe impossible. They deter China without in any way provoking Beijing. By showing that a nuclear power can be resisted, they teach other countries that they need not build nuclear weapons. For two years, Ukrainians have protected us as well as their own people. Most Americans understand this, and want to help Ukraine. And most elected representatives do, too.

But we are letting the Ukrainians down. It has been more than 470 days since Congress passed legislation to support Ukraine. That is most of the time since Russia invaded in February 2022. During the period of our inaction, Russia has reconstituted its army. It is preparing a new offensive, testing Ukraine across the front and illegally using CS gas to drive Ukrainian soldiers from their trenches.

[...] Ukrainians are giving us a chance. A chance for Americans to do the right thing, for them, for us, for decency, for humanity. Ukraine can protect itself and bring stability around the world. ■ HISTORY. ■

Miguel lived most of his life without his mother, not because she died or because his parents were divorced it was because she was a coward. When he was fourteen-years-old his mother left Texas out of fear from the Quantum of Devils president. When he was seven years old, the club was desperate for members and at this time all adult members were expected to join their sons or daughters. Miguel’s father made a deal with the President that stated that Jacob wouldn’t ever join the gang unwillingly. When his father died eight years later, the deal that was made died along with him. The President put the life of the Fuentes family on Miguel’s shoulders. Miguel wouldn’t let him hurt his family, so he agreed to take on his father’s debt as long as his family wouldn’t be harmed. Miguel thought he’d had everything under control until one day he came home to an empty house, his mother had packed up and left while he was at school.

The day his mother left was the same day Miguel changed. He began living with his uncle, and he realized there wasn’t a point in trusting anyone. With that mindset, he became mean and vengeful. More than anything he wanted revenge for his mother’s disappearance. He began blaming the President which of course caused a shift in his attitude around him. He didn’t feel scared of him anymore since his hate and fury towards him grew much larger than any feeling of fear. He’d started to plot his revenge, though it all came crumbling down when in the final moments of his plan, he was intended to meet the president at their warehouse. Though instead of meeting the president he was saw his uncle inside, strapped to a chair and beaten to a pulp. It was at that moment when he saw his uncle, the only family he had, left for dead. Did he know it was all over, he couldn’t seek revenge, not without anyone else getting hurt.

Since that day Miguel became a loyal and numb servant to the Devils. His uncle thankfully survived and returned to his position, without a word ever being mentioned regarding why or who had beaten him. Miguel didn’t care about anything anymore, he felt he didn’t have any control of his life, so why should he care. When Tubbs came into the picture, he assumed his way of running things would be the same. Although this man really gained an interest in him. Miguel didn’t give him much. He’d been forced to keep his mouth for so long that when Tubbs cared about his opinion, Miguel wasn’t sure how to respond. He felt a sliver of hope when Tubbs let him in his plan of killing the current president and re-building the Devils for who they should be.

■ WHOSE SIDE ARE YOU ON? ■

Miguel was hardly given a choice to serve the Devils from the time he had taken on his father’s death. Despite his mother’s disappearance, he remained loyal to them if only out of spite but the change in Presidency has given him a new outlook on his place within the club. Still quite untrusting he’s found solace in a few members and is coming around to the sense of family that the club tries to create.

■ KEEP THIS AWAY FROM YOUR ENEMIES ■

Miguel was one of the very few who knew the real truth behind the previous presdient’s death. As the Devils entered New York, Miguel noticed a slight shift in Tubbs way of leading. He recognized the same tendencies the previous president had, the threats and the fear inducing methods began to arise and it made Miguel quite nervous. One night he felt he needed a drink and ended up drinking quite a bit with Anthony Williams. In a rare moment, Anthony admitted something that Miguel wouldn’t have realized or known if it hadn’t been said. He admitted his true relation to Eva Williams, and he was sworn not to say anything. With two heavy-weighted secrets, he’s been feeling the need to release a lot more. Since moving to New York, he’s spent alot of his free time at Sweek Kiss Studios, looking to hook up with a few of the actresses. When learning that one of the actresses is a prospect, he threatened her membership if she didn’t get him drugs from the clubhouse and find him girls to sleep with on a weekly basis. He told her he would pay half the asking value for the drugs so she wouldn’t be totally responsible. Though he left her to deal with the other half, knowing that Alicia Lopez wouldn’t be happy with her performance if she returned with only half of asking value.

■ RELATIONSHIPS. ■

■ Angelina Como: Miguel was present at the time her father - the previous president was killed and he wasn’t at all aware of the fact that she witnessed the whole thing.

■ Marissa Diaz: The two have become good friends over time, and Miguel watches out for the younger woman. Though he is aware of her drug addictions, he doesn’t step in to stop her and has kept it a secret from his friend Adriel, who Marissa is dating.

■ Quinn Davis: Having met in Texas, what they had was always complicated at best. And considering neither were willing to admit to feelings of anything more, they stayed just that, complicated until one fateful night in Mexico when the two married. Though they never told anyone about it, and kept their relationship a secret. And then just months later Quinn disappeared, not even bothering to leave him a note before he was set to leave for New York and the two hadn’t spoken since.
